Congratulations! You’re recently engaged, and now you’re beginning to navigate the exciting wedding planning process. If this process has left you feeling a bit overwhelmed, that’s perfectly okay! Luckily, there are local wedding planning events where you can meet up with vendors who want to help you out.

These events are a great way to meet face-to-face with tons of local vendors but if you’ve never been to one before, you may need a few pointers on how to make the most of your day. So without further ado, here’s a master list of everything you need to know and do before attending your first bridal show.

BRING A BAG

The #1 issue that most brides face at these shows is not having enough room in their bag for all of the information and freebies they collect. Some vendors hand out free bags, but to save yourself the trouble of tracking down these vendors, just bring your own! And when you do, prepare for it to get really heavy!

HAVE YOUR PHONE HANDY

Some vendors will ask you to take out your phone, so make sure you have it handy just in case that happens. Following these vendors on social media is a great way to stay up to date and informed on what they’re doing, get updates on promotions and deals, and can also be a great way to find inspiration for your own wedding!

PRINT LABELS

This may be surprising, but you can save yourself a lot of time by printing labels with your personal information in advance. Some vendors will have raffles and giveaways, and having labels printed will save you from the grueling process of writing your name, phone number, email address, and wedding date over and over.

PACK A NOTEPAD

If you’re the type of person that likes making lists, you may find that you want to have a notepad and pen to write down information. You’ll likely get information from each vendor, but if someone really stands out, you may want to make a note so you remember them later on!

COME HUNGRY (AND THIRSTY!)

There will be tons of food available for you to try, so make sure you don’t eat right before you arrive! Caterers, bartenders, and bakeries will provide samples for you to try—after all, why would you choose one of these vendors without giving their product a taste test?

TALK TO EVERYONE

These vendors are at the event for one reason only—they want to help you have the perfect wedding. You have so many options, so why not get all of the information that you can about each of them? Even if you think you’ve found a vendor that is perfect for your wedding, there may be another similar vendor in the room who provides the same service for a better price. Keep an open mind and shop around!

HAVE YOUR QUESTIONS READY

If there are specific things you’re looking to find in your vendors, be sure to write them down! These vendors know the process of wedding planning well, so they won’t think anything of it if you pull out a list of questions. On the flip side, this can be a great way to make sure you get all of the information you need to make your decisions!

ORGANIZE AFTERWARDS

Attending the bridal show is only the first step! When you get home, you’ll want to take out all of the information you received and sort through it. Depending on how organized you are, you may already have a wedding planning binder set up. But if not, you may want to consider starting one! This would be a great place to store your inspiration, vendor options, and budget information. All of the commotion involved in planning a wedding can get a bit tricky to navigate, so you’ll want to stay as organized as possible.

GO BE A PRO!

Now you’re ready for your first bridal show! Follow this list to a T and you’ll leave the event with all of the useful information you need to make your Dream Wedding come true! Happy planning!
